The Shop Next Door is a creative workshop built on community & collaboration. A curated line of goods designed specifically for home & the hospitality industry, with an emphasis on conscious consumerism, sustainability & slow living by the sea.
CAUSES WE CARE ABOUT
At Bungalow & The Shop Next Door, we are committed to creating awareness for the causes we feel connected to – particularly those that effect women, children & the oceans. We’re committed to making informed decisions & being aware of the impact our presence has on not only the eco-systems in which we source & reside, but the greater global community in which we all belong.
Seabin Project is responsible for collecting trash, oil, fuel & other pollutants from our oceans. There are over 850 Seabins installed globally & their technology has collected 1.8 million kilos of garbage & plastic from our oceans to date.
How does it work?
The Seabin moves up & down with the flow of the tide, collecting all floating rubbish as it goes. Water is pulled in from the surface & passes through a catch bag with a submersible water pump capable of displacing 25,000 litres of water per hour. The water is then cycled back in to the ocean, leaving litter & debris trapped in the catch bag.
The Seabin can catch an estimated 3.9kgs of floating debris per day or 1.4 tons per year, including micro plastics as small as 2mm.
A challenge Seabin Project continues to face is a lack of volunteers. As part of our ongoing commitment to ocean conservation, our team has loved volunteering their time to help Seabin with servicing & data collection. To volunteer your time or make a donation, we encourage you to visit their website.
All mothers & their children deserve access to basic healthcare & the chance for their families to get ahead. SurfAid is a not for profit organisation committed to improving the health & wellbeing of mothers & children living in isolated regions, by enabling local people to develop & apply their own development ideas rather than simply delivering our own.
Donated funds will support SurfAid in improving the lives of women & children in remote areas & isolated villages where the maternal & child mortality rates are some of the highest in the world. Together, we can give families the best chance of getting ahead by providing access to healthcare, clean water & sanitation & improved nutrition.
